Our place in the village

More than a café: where Bera meets

You step in from the mountain chill and you're met by the smell of freshly brewed coffee and the day's pastries. At Sara Kafetegia we care for every cup as if it were for family, with properly textured milk, croissants fresh from the oven and tortilla pintxos for those who arrive hungry.

We're right in the centre of Bera, in the Bidasoa valley, a stone's throw from Lesaka, Etxalar and the French border. Inside there's a forest mural, shelves of books and plants; outside, a generous terrace overlooking the river.

What makes every visit special

Four things we never compromise on: coffee made properly, freshly baked sweet things, the pintxos at the counter and the terrace.

Freshly brewed coffee

Coffee ground to order: espresso, cortado, café con leche, cappuccino with latte art and drinks made with plant-based milk, just as you like them.

Pastries and pintxos

Croissants, chocolate pastries, lemon doughnuts, palmiers and cream buns, alongside tortilla pintxos and freshly made filled rolls in the counter display.

Village atmosphere

A forest mural, Edison bulbs, shelves of books and plants. People reading, chatting and taking their coffee slowly.

Terrace beside the Bidasoa

A spacious terrace with parasols, decorative barrels and flowers, looking straight onto the River Bidasoa and the trees along its banks. The perfect spot when the sun comes out.

A terrace like no other

The terrace beside the Bidasoa

When the sun comes out in Bera, there's one place where coffee tastes different: our terrace facing the river. Parasols, tables, decorative barrels and the sound of the Bidasoa in the background. Time doesn't rush here.

Perfect for breakfast in the open air, a glass of rosé at aperitif time, or simply gazing at the trees with a cup in your hand.

The atmosphere

A place to linger

People don't come here just for the coffee: they come to stay. With a book, with someone to catch up with, or simply to watch the morning go by from a table at the window overlooking the garden.

Inside there's an autumn forest mural, shelves of books and tropical plants, Mocay coffee-bean prints and the warm light of Edison bulbs. We put the same care into the space as we put into the coffee.

How we make our coffee

Unhurried, in three steps

Good coffee has no secrets: it has care. This is how we make it every day.

We choose good beans

We're careful about the coffee that goes into the machine and we store it as it should be stored, so every cup comes out like the first.

We grind to order

No coffee ground the day before. We adjust the grinder to get the best out of the bean just before serving.

We serve without rushing

A careful extraction, properly textured milk and a genuine "enjoy". Good things are best enjoyed unhurried.

Bera · Bortziriak

In the heart of the Bidasoa valley

Bera is one of the Bortziriak (Five Towns), set between the River Bidasoa and the mountains, with La Rhune (Larrun) watching over it from 905 metres and the French border a step away. A village of stone houses, of the romantic organ of San Esteban and of Itzea, the Baroja family home.

We're here for the people of Bera and for everyone passing through: hikers coming down from La Rhune, travellers on their way to France and neighbours from Lesaka, Etxalar or Igantzi who drop in for their coffee. And for anyone after a quiet morning on the terrace by the river.
