Freshly brewed coffee
Coffee ground to order and served without rushing. We take care of the machine, the texture of the milk and the temperature, so every cup comes out exactly as it should.
From the first coffee of the day to the evening vermut. With a terrace beside the Bidasoa, proper pastries and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay.
We're a neighbourhood café right in the centre of Bera, on Iturlandeta Karrika. The kind of place you step into one morning just passing through, and end up coming back to every day. A warm interior with a forest mural, Edison bulbs and shelves full of books, made for staying, not for passing by.
We like to do things unhurried: coffee freshly ground, milk properly textured and pastries where they belong. And when the outdoors calls, our terrace beside the Bidasoa is waiting, with its parasols and views over the river. No fuss, no theatre: just good coffee, a croissant worth having and a warm welcome, the kind where you're greeted by name.
All sorts pass through here: neighbours before work, hikers heading up the mountain, travellers on their way to France and people who drop in from Lesaka or Etxalar. Everyone gets the same cup, made with the same care.
Three simple ideas that guide what we do every day behind the counter.

Golden croissants, chocolate napolitanas, sponge cakes and tarts. Every day the display case fills up with pastries fresh from the oven, ready to go with your coffee or sweeten the afternoon.
Here you're not a number. We greet you by name, we know how you like your coffee, and there's always room for a chat without rushing.
A warm interior for morning coffee, a display case full of pastries fresh from the oven, and a terrace beside the Bidasoa for when you fancy some air.
The morning starts early. By 7:30 there's already the smell of coffee and pastries fresh from the oven. The first to arrive come for breakfast before work; those passing through order their coffee to go, on their way to France or before heading up La Rhune (Larrun).
At midday the counter comes alive with the day's pintxos: tortilla fresh off the pan, filled rolls and a glass of rosé to toast without hurrying. In summer, all of that happens on the terrace beside the Bidasoa, with the sound of the river in the background and the parasols up.
In the afternoon we open again and the room fills up with afternoon treats: hot chocolate, tarts and pastries for groups of friends, families and anyone coming out of class. Close up, coffee, and start all over again. Day after day, we're still the place where the Bidasoa stops for something to eat.
"A good coffee isn't measured in seconds, but in how much you want to come back the next day."
The Sara Kafetegia team
Bera is one of the five Bortziriak towns, together with Lesaka, Etxalar, Igantzi and Arantza, tucked between the River Bidasoa and the mountains. Border country, a stone's throw from Sare, Ainhoa and Saint-Jean-de-Luz, with La Rhune (Larrun) watching over from its 905 metres and the Bidasoa setting the pace of the valley.
Our terrace sits right beside that river: tables by the water, parasols open in summer and the Bidasoa's sound in the background. A setting that turns a ten o'clock coffee or a midday aperitif into something worth savouring. We're the place to come back to every time you pass through Bera.
